Chicana Feminist Writer Gloria Anzaldua

Feminist Gloria Anzaldua was a guiding force in the  Chicano and Chicana movement  and  lesbian/queer theory.  She was a poet, activist, theorist, and teacher who lived from September 26, 1942, to May 15, 2004. Her writings blend styles, cultures, and languages, weaving together poetry, prose, theory, autobiography, and experimental narratives. Life in the Borderlands Gloria Anzaldua was born in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas in 1942. She described herself as a Chicana/Tejana/lesbian/dyke/feminist/writer/poet/cultural theorist, and these identities were just the beginning of the ideas she explored in her work. Gloria Anzaldua was the daughter of a Spanish American and an American Indian. Her parents were farm workers; during her youth, she lived on a ranch, worked in the fields and became intimately aware of the Southwest and South Texas landscapes. She also discovered that Spanish speakers existed on the margins in the United States. She began to experiment with writing and gain awareness of social justice issues. Gloria Anzaldua’s book Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, published in 1987, is the story of existence in several cultures near the Mexico/Texas border. It is also the story of Mexican-Indian history, mythology, and cultural philosophy. The book examines physical and emotional borders, and its ideas range from Aztec religion to the role of women in Hispanic culture to how lesbians find a sense of belonging in a straight world. The hallmark of Gloria Anzaldua’s work is the interweaving of poetry with prose narrative. The essays interspersed with poetry in Borderlands/La Frontera reflect her years of feminist thought and her non-linear, experimental manner of expression. Feminist Chicana Consciousness Gloria Anzaldua received her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas-Pan American in 1969 and a master’s in English and Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972. Later in the 1970s, she taught a course at UT-Austin called â€Å"La Mujer Chicana.† She said that teaching the class was a turning point for her, connecting her to the queer community, writing and feminism. Gloria Anzaldua moved to California in 1977, where she devoted herself to writing. She continued to participate in political activism, consciousness-raising, and groups such as the Feminist Writers Guild. She also looked for ways to build a multicultural, inclusive feminist movement. Much to her dissatisfaction, she discovered there were very few writings either by or about women of color.   Some readers have struggled with the multiple languages in her writings – English and Spanish, but also variations of those languages. According to Gloria Anzaldua, when the reader does the work of piecing together fragments of language and narrative, it mirrors the way feminists must struggle to have their ideas heard in a patriarchal society. The Prolific 1980s Gloria Anzaldua continued to write, teach, and travel to workshops and speaking engagements throughout the 1980s. She edited two anthologies that collected the voices of feminists of many races and cultures. This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color was published in 1983 and won the Before Columbus Foundation American Book Award. Making Face Making Soul/Haciendo Caras: Creative and Critical Perspectives by Feminists of Color was published in 1990. It included writings by famous feminists such as Audre Lorde and Joy Harjo, again in fragmented sections with titles such as â€Å"Still Trembles our Rage in the Face of Racism† and â€Å"(De)Colonized Selves. Other Life Work Gloria Anzaldua was an avid observer of art and spirituality and brought these influences to her writings as well. She taught throughout her life and worked on a doctoral dissertation, which she was unable to finish due to health complications and professional demands. UC Santa Cruz later awarded her a posthumous Ph.D. in literature. Gloria Anzaldua won many awards, including the National Endowment for the Arts Fiction Award and the Lambda Lesbian Small Press Book Award. She died in 2004 from complications related to diabetes. Aspects of Several Theories of Education - 956 Words

There are several theories of education. There are teacher centered and student centered ones, each one has its pros and cons. Educators use all different kinds of philosophy, many even combine philosophies. .After researching and observing different ways of teaching I have found I like a lot of them but only few aspects of each. I do believe in a student centered atmosphere so Progressivism and Reconstructionism are most logical choices. Progressivism focuses on the students benefits, this theory allows for greater student involvement, which I find to be a very important aspect. I believe it also hinders there learning, this theory overprotects students too much. When they reach the next grade or transfer schools they are unprepared for the harsher ways of learning. So I do not believe this method should be as a whole. I would use certain features in my classroom. There is also Reconstructionism which promotes social progress but this only focuses on developing an improved world. People say its student based but I believe that its more teachers based because it tries to turn student into socially reformed adults. It doesn’t focus on each child but rather the whole group. I would not use this theory in my classroom. I think the best student centered philosophy is Constructivism. This theory emphasized hands on learning. Students are activity participating in class. In my observation, I saw constructivism working on real students. The Power Of Writing Essay - 995 Words

The Power Of Writing When I entered this class I didn’t think that we would be discussing the concept of writing. In fact, I never thought the concept of writing was that complicated enough to be discussed in a classroom setting. However, as demonstrated throughout history different forms of communication, such as writing, have shaped and evolved human interaction and invoked societal change. For example, in Walter Ong’s essay, â€Å"Writing is a Technology that Restructures Thought,† Ong acknowledges that means of communication, such as the computer and pencil, have been in argument since Plato’s time (319). Consequently, I asked myself how something so simple has been taken for granted for so long. The appropriate answer to that†¦show more content†¦After searching for about an hour and a half, I finally found a couple of flat rocks that would work. Compared to the computer, which I can type approximately 40 words a minute, writing in the natural setting seemed a lot harder than I thought it would be. For example, just finding a stone to write on took almost two hours. Ong describes the process of writing on the computer compared to on paper as, â€Å"because we have by today so deeply interiorized writing, made it so much a part of ourselves, as Plato’s age had not yet made it fully a part of itself, we find it difficult to consider writing to be a technology as we commonly assume printing and the computer to be.† (321) This assignment demonstrated not only how hard it is to physically write, but also to find the utensils in nature as did our ancestors. Dennis Baron described writing, with a pencil, as â€Å"The pencil may seem as a simple device in contrast to the computer, but although it has fewer parts, it too is an advanced technology.†(39) In addition, this assignment helped me to believe that writing is not only a technology but it is also a technology that is taken for granted. Baron also described writing as, â€Å"we have a way of getting so used to writing technologies that we come to think of them as a natural rather than technological. The Path of Buddha - 832 Words

Now that we have a basic understanding of the Buddhas life and goals, we can examine the Buddhas first sermon, which is the foundation of the beliefs held by those that follow the principles of Buddhism. We can first look at the Four Noble Truths: 1. All existence involves suffering. 2 This suffering was caused by desire, 3. There can be a cessation to this suffering, 4. By following the Eightfold Noble Path. Next, Buddha instructed his followers to follow the Middle Path and condemned extreme behavior, giving them a set of rules called the Eightfold Noble Path as a guide. The Eightfold Noble Path’s only prerequisite being that we must have the right association with people in our social environment. This is extremely important to understand because much of our behavior is influenced by our social interactions and social environment. The eightfold noble path includes: 1. Right Knowledge says that we must first understand the four noble truths and understand that desire and ignorance cause suffering (Smith 1994). Buddha cautioned that anger, greed, and ego could corrupt our thoughts and sway us from reaching our goal of moksha. Therefore, we must educate ourselves so that we can eliminate the desires that sway our good intentions. Only by ridding ourselves of wrong intention and by gaining virtue can we find the path of enlightenment. 2. Right Intention says that we must understand what we really want to achieve in life. How can they have so many werewolves in one town?† â€Å"Wolves are sociable,†Stefan said quietly. â€Å"It looks as if there is a whole community of werewolves in Ridgemont. Seeded among the various Bear and Moose and Lions Clubs of course. For spying on the only creatures they’re scared of: humans.† At the boardinghouse Stefan carried Meredith to the first-floor bedroom and Elena pul ed the covers over her. Then she went to the kitchen, where the conversation was continuing. â€Å"What about those werewolves’families? Their wives?†she demanded as she rubbed Matt’s shoulders where she knew the muscles must hurt fiercely from being handcuffed behind his back. Her soft fingers soothed bruises, but her hands were strong, and she kept kneading and kneading until her own shoulder muscles began to swear at her†¦and beyond. Stefan stopped her. â€Å"Move over, love, I’ve got evil vampire magic. Mrs. Flowers came by just then with mugs of hot, sweet cinnamon tea. Matt drained his mug and his head fel back slightly. His eyes were shut, his lips parted. Elena felt a huge wave of pain and tension flood away from him. And then she hugged both of her boys and cried. â€Å"They picked me up on my own driveway,†Matt admitted as Elena sniffled. â€Å"And they did it by the book, but they wouldn’t even look at the – the chaos al around them.† Mrs. Flowers approached again, looking serious. â€Å"Dear Matt, you’ve had a terrible day. Matt, Stillbeing kneaded pliant, had just nodded. After that his color started coming back and a little smile curved his lips. â€Å"There’s m’main man,†he said, when Saber butted his way through traffic to pant directly in Matt’s face. â€Å"Buddy, I love your dog breath,†he declared. â€Å"You saved me. Can he have a treat, Mrs. Flowers?†he asked, turning slightly unfocused blue eyes on her. â€Å"I know just what he’d like. I have half a roast left in the refrigerator that just needs to be heated a bit.†She punched buttons and in a short while, said, â€Å"Matt, would you like to do the honors? Remember to take the bone out – he might choke on it.† Matt took the large pot roast, which, heated, smel ed so good it made him aware that he was starving. He felt his morals col apse. â€Å"Mrs. Flowers, do you think I could make a sandwich before I give it to him?† â€Å"Oh, you poor dear boy!†she cried. â€Å"And I never even thought – of course they wouldn’t give you lunch or dinner.† Mrs. Flowers got bread and Matt was happy enough with that, bread and meat, the simplest sandwich imaginable – and so good it curled his toes. Elena wept just a little more. So easy to make two creatures happy with one simple thing. More than two – they were al happy to see Matt safe and to watch Saber get his proper reward. The enormous dog had fol owed every movement of that roast with his eyes, tail swishing back and forth on the floor. But when Matt, Stillchomping, offered him the large piece of meat that was left, Saber just cocked his head to one side, staring at it as if to say, â€Å"You have to be joking.† â€Å"Yes, it’s for you. Go on and take it now,†Mrs. Flowers said firmly. Final y, Saber opened his enormous mouth to take hold of the end of the roast, tail twirling like a helicopter blade. His body language was so clear that Matt laughed out loud. â€Å"This once on the floor with us,†Mrs. Flowers added magnificently, spreading a large rug over the kitchen floorboards. Saber’s joy was only surpassed by his good manners. He put the roast on the rug and then trotted up to each of the humans to push a wet nose into hand or waist or under a chin, and then he trotted back and attacked his prize. â€Å"I wonder if he misses Sage?†Elena murmured. â€Å"I miss Sage,†Matt said indistinctly. â€Å"We need al the magic help we can get.† Meanwhile Mrs. Flowers was hurrying around the kitchen making ham and cheese sandwiches and bagging them like school lunches. â€Å"Anybody who wakes up tonight hungry must have something to eat,†she said. â€Å"Ham and cheese, chicken salad, some nice crisp carrots, and a big hunk of apple pie.†Elena went to help her. She didn’t know why, but she wanted to cry some more. Mrs. Flowers patted her. â€Å"We are al feeling – er, strung out, â€Å"she announced gravely. â€Å"Anyone who doesn’t feel like going right to sleep is probably running on too much adrenaline. He closed Matt’s fingers firmly around a packed lunch, then steered him toward the stairs. Elena gathered several more lunches, kissed Mrs. Flowers twice, and went up to Stefan’s room. She had the attic bed straightened and was opening a plastic bag when Stefan came in from putting Matt to bed. â€Å"Is he okay?†she said anxiously. â€Å"I mean, wil he be okay tomorrow?† â€Å"He’l be okay in his body. I got most of the damage healed.† â€Å"And in his mind?† â€Å"It’s a tough thing. He just ran smack into Real Life. Arrested, knowing they might lynch him, not knowing if anybody would be able to figure out what had happened to him. He thought that even if we tracked him it would come down to a fight, which would have been hard to win – with so few of us, and not much magic left.† â€Å"But Saber fixed ’em,†Elena said. She looked thoughtful y at the sandwiches she’d laid out on the bed. â€Å"Stefan, do you want chicken salad or ham?†she asked. There was a silence. But it was moments before Elena looked up at him in astonishment. â€Å"Oh, Stefan – I – I actual y forgot. I just – today has been so strange – I forgot – â€Å" â€Å"I’m flattered,†Stefan said. â€Å"And you’re sleepy. Whatever Mrs. Flowers puts in her tea – â€Å" â€Å"I think the government would be interested in it,†Elena offered. â€Å"For spies and things. But for now†¦Ã¢â‚¬ She held her arms out, head bent back, neck exposed. â€Å"No, love. I remember this afternoon, if you don’t. And I swore I was going to start hunting, and I am,†Stefan said firmly. â€Å"You’re going to leave me?†Elena said, startled out of her warm satisfaction. They stared at each other. â€Å"Don’t leave,†Elena said, combing her hair away from her neck. â€Å"I had it al planned out, how you’l drink, and how we’l sleep holding each other. Please don’t leave, Stefan.† She knew how hard he found it to leave her. Even if she was grimy and worn out, even if she was wearing grungy jeans and had dirt under her fingernails. She was endlessly beautiful and endlessly powerful and mysterious to him. He longed for her. Elena could feel it through their bond, which was beginning to hum, beginning to warm up, beginning to draw him in close. â€Å"But, Elena,†he said. He was trying to be sensible! Didn’t he know she didn’t want sensible at this particular moment? â€Å"Right here.†Elena tapped the soft spot on her neck. Their bond was singing like an electric power line now. But Stefan was stubborn. â€Å"You need to eat, yourself. You have to keep your strength up.† Elena immediately picked up a chicken salad sandwich and bit into it. Mmm†¦yummy. Real y good. She would have to pick Mrs. Flowers a wildflower bouquet. They were al so well taken care of here. She had to think of more ways to help. Stefan was watching her eat. It made him hungry, but that was because he was used to being fed round the clock, and not used to exercise. Elena could hear everything through their connection and she heard him thinking that he was glad to see Elena renewing herself. That he had learned discipline now; that it wouldn’t do him any harm to go to bed one night feeling hungry. He would hold his sleepy adorable Elena al night. No! Elena was horrified. Since he’d been imprisoned in the Dark Dimension, anything that hinted at Stefan going without fil ed her with appal ing terror. Suddenly she had trouble swal owing the bite she’d taken. â€Å"Right here, right here†¦please?†she begged him. She didn’t want to have to seduce him into it, but she would if he forced her to. She would wash her hands into pristine cleanliness, and change into a long, clinging nightgown, and stroke his stubborn canines in between kisses, and touch them with her tongue tip gently, just at the base where they wouldn’t cut her as they responded and grew. And by then he would be dizzy, he would be out of control, he would be hers completely. All right, All right! Stefan thought to her. Mercy! â€Å"I don’t want to give you mercy. I don’t want you to let me go,†she said, holding her arms out to him, and heard her own voice soft and tender and yearning. â€Å"I want you to hold me and keep me forever, and I want to hold you and keep you forever.† Stefan’s face had changed. He looked at her with the look he’d worn in prison when she had come to visit him in an outfit – very unlike the grubby one she wore now – and he’d said, bewildered, â€Å"Al this†¦it’s for me?† There had been razor wire between them then. Now there was nothing to separate them and Elena could see how much Stefan wanted to come to her. She reached a little farther and then Stefan came into the circle of her arms and held her tightly but with infinite care not to use enough strength to hurt her. When he relaxed and leaned his forehead against hers, Elena realized that she would never be tired or sad or frightened without being able to think of this feeling and that it would uphold her for the rest of her life. At last they sank down together on the sheets, comforting each other in equal measure; exchanging sweet, warm kisses. With each kiss, Elena felt the outside world and al its horrors drift farther and farther away. How could anything be wrong when she herself felt that heaven was near? Matt and Meredith, Damon and Bonnie would surely al be safe and happy too. Meanwhile, every kiss brought her closer to paradise, and she knew Stefan felt the same way. They were so happy together that Elena knew that soon the entire universe would echo with their own joy, which overflowed like pure light and transformed everything it touched. Bonnie woke and realized she had only been unconscious for a few minutes. She began to shiver, and once she started she couldn’t seem to stop. She felt a wave of heat envelop her, and she knew that Damon was trying to warm her, but Stillthe trembling wouldn’t go away. â€Å"What’s wrong?†Damon asked, and his voice was different from usual. â€Å"I don’t know,†Bonnie said. She didn’t. â€Å"Maybe it’s because they kept starting to throw me out the window. I wasn’t going to scream about that,†she added hastily, in case he assumed she would. â€Å"But then when they talked about torturing me – â€Å" She felt a sort of spasm go through Damon. He was holding her too hard. â€Å"Torturing you! They threatened you with that?† â€Å"Yes, because, you know, Misao’s star bal was gone. They knew that it had been poured out; I didn’t tel them that. But I had to tel them that it was my fault that the last half got poured out, and then they got mad at me. Oh! Damon, you’re hurting me!† â€Å"So it was your fault it got poured out, was it?† â€Å"Well, I figure it was. You couldn’t have done it if I hadn’t gotten drunk, and – wh-what’s wrong, Damon? Are you mad too?†He real y was holding her so that she real y couldn’t breathe. Slowly, she felt his arms loosen a little. â€Å"A word of advice, little redbird. When people are threatening to torture and kil you, it might be more – expedient – to tel them that it’s someone else’s fault. Especial y if that happens to be the truth.† â€Å"I know that!†Bonnie said indignantly. â€Å"But they were going to kil me anyway. If I’d told about you, they’d’ve hurt you, too.† Damon pul ed her roughly back now, so that she had to look him in the face. Bonnie could also feel the delicate touch of a telepathic mind probe. She didn’t resist; she was too busy wondering why he had plum-colored shadows under his eyes. Then he shook her a little, and she stopped wondering. â€Å"Don’t you understand even the basics of self-preservation?†he said, and she thought he looked angry again. He was certainly different from any other time that she’d seen him – except once, she thought, and that was when Elena had been â€Å"Disciplined†for saving Lady Ulma’s life, back when Ulma had been a slave. He’d had the same expression then, so menacing that even Meredith had been frightened of him, and yet so fil ed with guilt that Bonnie had longed to comfort him. But there had to be some other reason, Bonnie’s mind told her. Because you’re not Elena, and he’s never going to treat you the way he treats Elena. A vision of the brown room rose before her, and she felt certain that he would never have put Elena there. Elena wouldn’t have let him, for one thing. â€Å"Do I have to go back?†she asked, realizing that she was being petty and sil y and that the brown room had seemed like a haven just a little while ago. â€Å"Go back?†Damon said, a little too quickly. She had the feeling that he’d seen the brown room too, now, through her eyes. â€Å"Why? The landlady gave me everything in the room. So I have your real clothes and a bunch of star bal s down there, in case you weren’t through with one. But why would you think you might have to go back?† â€Å"Well, I know you were looking for a lady of quality, and I’m not one,†Bonnie said simply. â€Å"That was just so I could change back into a vampire,†Damon said. â€Å"And what do you think is holding you up in the air right now?†But this time Bonnie knew somehow that the sensations from the â€Å"Never Ever†star bal s were Stillin her mind and that Damon was seeing them too. He was a vampire again. And the contents of these star bal s were so abominable that Damon’s stony exterior final y cracked. Bonnie could almost guess what he thought of them, and of her, left to shiver under her one blanket every night. And then, to her total astonishment, Damon, the ever-composed, brand-new vampire blurted, â€Å"I’m sorry. I didn’t think about how that place would be for you. Is there anything that wil make you feel better?† Bonnie blinked. She wondered, seriously, if she were dreaming. Damon didn’t apologize. Damon famously didn’t apologize, or explain, or speak so nicely to people, unless he wanted something from them. But one thing seemed real. She didn’t have to sleep in the brown room anymore. This was so exciting that she flushed a little, and dared say, â€Å"Could we go down to the ground? Slowly? Because the truth is that I’m just terrified of heights.† Damon blinked, but said, â€Å"Yes, I think I can manage that. Is there anything else you’d like?† â€Å"Well – there are a couple of girls who’d be donors – happily – if – well – if there’s any money left – if you could save them†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Damon said a little sharply, â€Å"Of course there’s some money left. I even wrung your share back out of that hag of a landlady.† â€Å"Well, then, there’s that secret that I told you, but I don’t know if you remember.† â€Å"How soon do you think you’l feel well enough to start?†asked Damon. How does the Fair Work Commission make Agreements? The fair work commission monitoring and reviews the full agreement of the enterprise agreements and also provide them the necessary work information. A collective arrangement made at the level of the venture between two entity - employers and employee are known as enterprise agreement. The routine of the fair work commission is to appraise and accept the agreement (Forsyth, Stewart, (Eds.). (2009). They have to also accord the terms and conditions of the agreement which has done between the employers and the employee. In the presence of the representatives on the behalf of both employees and employers, either one or two employers between more employees, an agreement has made which is done by an enterprise agreement. Again in the case of Greenfields agreement, an agreement has made between the negotiations of an employer with two or more relevant workers of the company (Smith, 2011). The pay rate of an employee should be a fixed in minimum and also in the modern world, the rate shoul d be same for all employees those belong to the same level. In the agreement of an enterprise should include the points such as, the pay rate of an employee, the environment of employment like working hours, the breaking time of meal etc. Deductions of earning money from the behalf of the organization How does the Fair Work Commission Approve Agreements? After completing the dealing, it is the time to approve the agreement. Before the full agreement, there is one pre-approval process, which has described step by step, given below To approve the agreement, from the side of employers should be taken some justified steps, and after that, they should ensure the agreement. The first one is, they have to clarify first the steps taken by the employees and the benefits getting from it as an employer's point of view. The next one is the explanation of the agreement. The account of the agreement should be justified for all level of the employee like a young one and for the old one also (Acton, 2011). Apart from this, the agreement should maintain a balance between all kind of cultures and societies since in many cases employees come from different regions also. After that, a voting process will be made on the proposed agreement, and the votes are given by the employees, employed in different sections of an organization. The workers must catch all the necessary steps within the 7days of voting. A successful advantageous voting should be satisfied Single-enterprise agreement - consists the vote of each employer. Multi-enterprise agreement - numbers of employees and at least an employer must be agreed with it. Greenfields agreement - here the agreement is made between the employer and the relevant employees (Stewart, et al, 2014). What are the steps that are involved in the making and approving of agreements? After the pre-approval steps, an application is sent to the commission for the final approval. After making an enterprise agreement, a dealing representative must be applied to the commission on the behalf of the agreement for the approval of the agreement. Within the fourteen days, an application must be lodged with the commission. The application should be associated with a signed copy of the proposed agreement, and any one copy of the document announced by the fair work commission proposed in the year of 2013. If these two criterions are mate, then the application has lodged to the commission (Stewart, 2008). The loading process will be fulfilled after either a person has to come to the office, via post or he or she can take an advantage of electronic media posting also. The final steps of approval from the side of the commission, the commission must be taken some points to be a consideration like, whether the pre- approval steps are done successfully or not, whether the points of the agreement are truly taken by the relevant employees, the level of the betterment should be high, need genuine employees of the organization, the agreement must be flexible in all terms and conditions. What are the Strengths and the Weaknesses of this Process? There are some points must be included in the agreements of the fair work commission like, the terms also the relationship between the employer and the employee should be clarified in more details, who will be mostly covered by the agreement should be clarified also in detailed between employees and the employer, the process and the terms and conditions of the deduction in the wages should be described more deeply in terms of an employee, the operation process of the agreement must be described more clearly (Australia, 2011). On the other side, it has a great advantage also with it, the working hours become more flexible and also become employee friendly, the definition of job profiles or the particular work of the job become more classified and clear to all employees, great scopes will be opened up in the field of career and training, work becomes more dependent on the performance basis rather depends upon different factors. The wages also increases on the based on the work performance, a greater client satisfaction then gets prior on the above all, which also improves the work delivery system, the satisfaction level of the employees and the workplace will also improve a lot after introducing this fair work commission agreement. Steps to Build a Bully Free Workplace: Management should maintain dignity and respect in the workplace is basic criteria of every employee. Management has responsibility to save employees from being bullied by others; therefore, Reasonable management action should be taken (Stewart, 2011). Fair Work provisions should be introduced so maintain balance at workplace. Training for employees so that they can understand workplace bully is not justified; undertake several obligations under WHS act and Regulations (Layton, et al, 2013). Various steps have been adopted to develop bully free work place like Workplace consultation is necessary for both employees and employers, development of campaign regarding workplace awareness, Training and development to the employees, understand issues within workplace, Process to deal with those issue, Consultation and feedback etc (James, Ombudsman, 2015). Along with that, union of the organization should develop a campaign in order to ensure several facts like there should be some easy process for the workers while making an application to FWC, the process of making application should be easy and simpler, FWC wants to deal with the matter as early as possible if they find the application of employee is legitimate and employer is unable to satisfy the need of employees, At the time of implementation of policies and training, Union workers should work closely with them and the report presented by FWC should be the last report. (Hardy, Howe, 2010) Conclusion Several evidences are entitled in the official website of Fair Work Commission. It has to carry out range of operations like providing safety net to the workers with minimum wages (Nelms, Tsingas, 2010). The Fair Work Commission has to deal fast with the applications in relation to any dispute matter and they have to understand how much action should be justified. Reference Stewart, A. (2008). Beowulf An Epic Hero Essay Example For Students

Beowulf: An Epic Hero Essay Being a hero can be defined many different ways. Several qualities like courage, respect, and strength can define heroism. A hero is noted for his or her actions for being brave, powerful, and acting with honor. In the epic poem, Beowulf, the main character Beowulf shows all of these characteristics by defending the Danish king, Hrothgar, and his people. He is a true hero by honoring his country and exerting his power and strength to protect others. Beowulf embodies the qualities of bravery, being powerful, and demonstrating his honor; therefore, he can be considered a true hero. A way Beowulf demonstrates his heroism is the way he stays true to the Geats by honoring them. Before going into battle with Grendel’s mother, he tells Hrothgar to do something for him, â€Å" If your enemy should end my life, then, oh generous prince, forever the father and protector of all whom I leave behind me, here in your hands, my beloved Comrades left with no leader, their leader dead. †(ll. 1478-1482). By this dialogue, he expresses how much he cares for his soldiers and respects his men and country. He is also honorable to his lord, Hrothgar. Anything I can do, here on this earth to earn your love, oh great king, anything more than I have done, battle I can fight in your honor, summon me, I will come as I came once before. †(ll. 1822-1826). Beowulf’s honor far exceeds the average person’s, and his actions and words show for it. Not only is Beowulf honorable and well respected, he is brave as well. His courage is shown by not hesitating to risk his own life to pursue the Dane’s enemies. By being self-assured, Beowulf is able to successfully defeat the fiends, Grendel and his infamous mother. At the time Beowulf is planning to pursue the vindictive dragon, the epic poem states, â€Å"I’ve never known fear, as a youth I fought in endless battles. I am old now, but I will fight again, seek fame still, If the dragon hiding in his tower dares to face me. †(ll. 2511-2515). He feels no fear, is confident in fighting the dragon alone, and has no qualms in risking his life to save others. He declares his bravery by saying, â€Å"When he comes to me I mean to stand, not run from his shooting flames, stand till fate decides which of us wins No one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but me could hope to defeat this monster. †(ll. 2525-2534). In his actions, Beowulf’s bravery is clearly shown throughout the poem. A final example of heroic qualities shown by Beowulf is his power. The mental and physical strength is mandatory to being a hero. No Dane, before Beowulf’s arrival, is able to defeat Grendel because of fear and weakness. Beowulf has the power to physically cripple and defeat Grendel. He is able to observe that Grendel’s exterior is impenetrable, so he then injures him the only way possible, from the inside out. By tearing the beast’s limb off of his body, Beowulf is able to defeat the once thought immortal creature by being overpowering. â€Å" not even the sharpest of swords could have cut it through, broken it off the monster’s arm and ended its life, as Beowulf had don armed with only his bare hands. †(ll. 987-990). Beowulf also uses his strength to lift the sword, â€Å"so massive that no ordinary man could lift †(l. 1560), when trying to slay the she-demon in the marsh. Beowulf and his power are always victorious over every conflict faced. In conclusion, Beowulf’s actions speak for what he stands for and believes in. Bravery is shown in his character by describing how he approaches his enemies and miscreants. Even at the time of his death, Beowulf shows honor and power by keeping his promise to defeat the malevolent dragon. By honoring his country and exerting his strength and power to keep guard for others, he is heroic . Although some may have various definitions of a hero, it would be difficult to disagree; by being brave, powerful, and honorable, Beowulf embodies the qualities of a true hero.
